The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture 2017 took place in Orlando last week, April 27-29 and The Spinnaker Group was there to represent. Jonathan Burgess, PLA, LEED AP ND & BD+C, WELL AP and Margaret Fitzsimons, M. Arch, Associate AIA, LEED AP were both in attendance.
The conference had over 500 sessions that included pre-conference session earlier in the week that included tours, trends, research, and guidance for architects. From tours of the largest single collection of Frank Loyd Wright designed and constructed buidings to sessions on Manufactured Masonry meeting LEEDv4 requirements and so much more. Margaret said, “It was inspiring to see how over the years sustainability has become seamlessly incorporated into the educational sessions, programs, and vendor offerings.”
On the expo floor of the conference there were over 800 leading building product manufacturers from Sherwin-Williams with paints, adhesives, and sealants to Nucor with steel materials, and much more. Jonathan said, “Whether on the expo floor, in between educational sessions, or during the evening networking events, it was great connecting with fellow design professionals and manufacturers committed to our shared vision of sustainable, resilient architecture.”
Will The Spinnaker Group attend again next year? Most definitely. Will we be leading our own sessions there next time? Keep tuned in to our blogs, news, and social media posts to find out.
