February 29th was not only special because it was Leap Day but also because The Spinnaker Group was able to deliver the prestigious LEED Gold plaque to the Village of Wellington for their new green Municipal Complex during the scheduled Council meeting. Rob Hink, Principal of the Spinnaker Group along with Linda Smithe, the LEED Project Manager for the project and Virginia Snyder Hink, President of The Spinnaker Group, were present for the ceremony. Rob read the congratulatory letter from USGBC CEO Rick Fedrizzi recognizing the Village of Wellington for outstanding leadership in the field of Sustainability and Green Buildings.
Rob presented the recycled aluminum LEED plaque to Mayor Darrell Bowen and the Council Members. It was noted that this is the first Municipal Complex in Palm Beach County to receive LEED certification and only the second in the South Florida Region.
The 54,000 square foot Municipal Complex was designed by STH Architects and built by the Weitz Construction Company. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system which verifies, through independent third party, that the building was constructed and designed and will maintain cost savings and environementally friendly strategies, water efficiency and a reduction in greenhouse gases.
The Spinnaker Group, the regions premier LEED Consulting and Commissioning firm, provided LEED Consulting on the Village of Wellington Municipal Complex.
