Spinnaker VP Named Green Leader

It’s not everyday that your company wins an award and so today we are going to do a little bragging, as opposed to our ‘traditional’ informative blog entry. Last Friday morning, April 24th, The Spinnaker Group’s Vice President of Sustainable Operations, Jonathan Burgess, was named Green Leader in the 2015 Green Means Green Awards. Presented by the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, the fifth annual Green Means Green Awards recognize individuals, corporations, emerging professionals and others in the community that have placed a strong emphasis on sustainability and green practices.

“I am very humbled by this distinction and grateful to the Chamber and their SEE Green Committee for this vote of confidence,” said Burgess. “I share this award with my fellow nominees and all those who work hard to make personal or professional contributions promoting the triple bottom line in their business practices, raising awareness about sea level rise and climate change, or transforming the built environment in a way that helps restore our natural one.”

Jonathan’s firm has helped in the design of over 90 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building projects and is currently involved in more than 200 LEED projects pursuing certification, both locally and internationally. The firm has also provided Commissioning Services on more than half a billion square feet of buildings worldwide.

Jonathan is a licensed Landscape Architect whose professional experience includes site design, land planning and project
management for major public and private developments covering practically all land use types. He has been responsible
for taking projects from conceptual planning and design through the land entitlement and permitting process. He has
worked on a wide variety of project scopes, from small‐scale domestic commercial properties to large‐scale
international mixed‐use developments. Most recently, Jonathan has been diligently working on the LEED Certification of Miami’s first LEED for Neighborhood Development projects, the Miami Design District.
