In honor of the upcoming Super Bowl weekend, we wanted to take a look at some of the many arenas and sports complexes that have taken the sustainability plunge; in particular becoming LEED Certified. The USGBC has created this great online tool for locating these Super Green All-Stars. Check out this fun, interactive map to locate your favorite team!
You’ll note that in South Florida we have two LEED certified arenas; The Marlins Ballpark and the American Airlines Arena. Per USGBC’s CEO Rick Fedrizzi, “Why should sports venues be green? Their very size and scale make it a no-brainer. By the very nature of their mission, they are going to use a LOT of energy, especially if some of it is needed to keep people warm. Might as well double down on efficiency where you can and explore alternative energy options in the process.”
Check out the rest of Rick’s article here and learn more about this fascinating “arena” of Sustainability.
